Welcoming Dr. Richard Amar to Alpharetta

We’re excited to share an important update from Breakthru as we continue to strengthen our commitment to delivering advanced mental health care in the Alpharetta community.

A New Leader in Interventional Psychiatry

Dr. Richard Amar has joined Breakthru as the new lead interventional psychiatrist at our Alpharetta location. He brings more than 20 years of experience and is double board-certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry.

Dr. Amar completed his training at Emory University and has held key leadership roles at both the Atlanta VA Medical Center and Talbott Recovery. Most recently, he served as Medical Director at Talbott Recovery, where he specialized in treating complex psychiatric and substance use conditions.

His clinical focus includes:

  • Complex mood disorders
  • Substance use disorders
  • Dual-diagnosis treatment
  • Long-term recovery strategies

Dr. Amar’s approach integrates medication management, psychotherapy, and interventional psychiatry to deliver personalized, results-driven care.

We also want to share an update regarding Dr. Cecilia Kwong. Many of you have worked closely with her in Alpharetta, and we’re pleased to confirm she will continue on in a part-time capacity at our Sandy Springs location.

Her continued involvement ensures ongoing collaboration and continuity of care for patients and referring providers.
